With Grant and Meade from the Wilderness to Appomattox
Published in Paperback by Univ of Nebraska Pr (April, 1994)
Authors: Theodore, Colonel Lyman, George R. Agassiz, and Brooks D. Simpson
Average review score:

A great book for behind the scenes information
This is an outstanding book that details the service of Grant and Meade towards the end of the Civil War. The story is told by the right hand man for both Grand and Meade. Lyman served both generals as their closest assistant. Much of the story comes from letters Lyman sent to his wife during the course of the war. The author's insight on both men is great. Several times in the book, he tells the "real" story of what happened at a certain point in the war that differs from what history says happened. It's like getting the inside scoop on what really happened.

We keep them on a shelf in the bathroom so that anyone can enjoy them.

A Woman's Guide to Making Therapy Work
Published in Hardcover by Birch Lane Pr (September, 1996)
Authors: Joan Shapiro and Margaret Grant
Average review score:

a great marriage of CBT and psychodynamic approaches
This is a great book. It is a practical and effective marriage of cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic approaches to therapy that fills gaps that just one approach often misses. It also is specifically geared toward women and the social roles we are so often expected to fill and the coping strategies we often use. It is an excellent resource that I plan to use with my clients and already use with myself.

Women Leaders and the Church: 3 Crucial Questions (3 Crucial Questions)
Published in Paperback by Baker Book House (15 March, 2000)
Authors: Linda L. Belleville, Richard J. Jones, and Grant R. Osborne
Average review score:

Excellent historical and exegetical work
In recent years Christians have become increasingly polarized around the question of what and how women should serve in the church and in the world, with rival organizations, conferences, books and articles all catching the public eye. Competing explanations of scripture, of history, and of human nature all vie for attention, while on the ground, churches and Christian ministries find themselves in tension between members who not only disagree, but question the fidelity of those with whom they differ. Linda Belleville has served us well with a book that moves sure-footedly through the issues: she gathers and concisely presents evidence for the actual roles women played in New Testament times, sets well the context for understanding Biblical statements, and judiciously presents and weighs differing interpretations of crucial texts about women and about leadership in the church. This is a book to move the discussion forward, eliminating some points of contention, and clarifying what's at issue in others.
